WHO - Barbara and Edward Elberfeld
Beck Street
Beck Street
Barb and Ed's front porch at 259 East Beck Street on the first day of ownership, November, 1974 and in November, 2023.
From Ed:
We began our lives in German Village in the 70s when Barb and I got nearby teaching jobs, (Barrett Middle School and Roosevelt Middle School). We found an old house that had been empty for five years and realized we could do “sweat equity” to improve it and make it our home.

The map of Columbus behind Barb and Ed is from 1872. Ed found it through the Library of Congress.
It is fun for GV nerds like me to look at what was where back then.

Some of the treasures Barb and Ed have collected from their extensive travels around the world in and on the cabinetry and around the room.
Ed made the mummy cat on the top of the cabinet. Egypt would not let him take a real mummy cat so he created the shape and wrapped it up.

We have been to 92 countries since the first year of our marriage.
More treasures can be found around the living room.
I have been a Commercial Photographer since high school days. I did this to work my way through college, then became an art teacher. I still do art photography, but since I retired in 2004 I have been focused on making Village Connections happen.
We like to walk through the charming streets of GV, eat out at the tasty restaurants and spend time with our fabulous friends in the area.
The greatest thing about German Village is not the old houses. I really think what makes this place special is the sense of community. It is like everyone across the span of the village is your neighbor. I think your magazine does a lot to foster that.
