From Kelly:
-July, Jared and I were off to stunning Alaska for an awesome two-week adventure. We flew into Bellingham,WA, and boarded the Alaska Marine Ferry; taking a boat up the South-East Inside Passage for an incredible four-day journey. The lesser-known ferry route follows the same path as larger commercial cruise ships, but without all the cheesy extras and for a fraction of the cost. With all the same views! We found the people we met were self-selectedly interesting.
From Jared:
I have been to Alaska before and just had to share its extraordinary beauty, uniqueness, and interesting experiences with Kelly.
More from Kelly:
Our ferry stopped in numerous small fishing villages along the way to Juneau, as this form of transportation is a primary way to get around in Alaska. There are no roads into or out of the capital of Juneau. We stayed for a few days, doing picturesque hikes and explorations of the town.
Glacier Bay
After Juneau we were off to Glacier Bay National Park via a seaplane, where we spent two days. We enjoyed a couple wildlife boat tours and got to see a great many whales, including a pod of Orcas that came within a few feet of the boat. Glacier Bay Lodge was a captivating place to stay, with our cozy, rustic cabin in the woods, alongside the water.
We spent several days in Anchorage, doing some exhilarating excursions, including a seaplane glacier tour out over the Triumvirate Glacier field; and a full day glacier extravaganza, where we saw over thirty (30) in one day, including getting very close to one and seeing it calve off (expel an iceberg) into the ocean.

Utqiagvik ("Barrow")
Another one of our excursions, involved flying all the way up to Utqiagvik (“Barrow”), the northernmost city in the U.S., and the eleventh most northern city in the world. A one of a kind place for the curious/adventurous traveler. We felt twenty-four (24) hours was just the right amount of time to spend there.
Upon arrival, scarily and thankfully, Jared survived a purposeful polar plunge into the Arctic Ocean. Once he had dried out, we walked around town and met some locals, one of whom gave us some Muk Tuk, raw whale blubber, which is considered a delicacy in their culture. A must-try for any venturesome eater.

With twenty-four hours of sunlight in the summer months, we headed to the beach outside of Barrow at midnight.
Jared "PROPOSED" underneath the giant whalebone arch that overlooks the boundless Arctic Ocean! It was so romantic and amazing to get engaged at the top of the world!
