My passion for writing, it seems, has been with me all my life. I wrote plays in high school, but after that most of my writing was legal, as I practiced law for 25 years. I found having my retail store, Caterina Ltd., in German Village nurtured my creative side, as I imported European artisanal housewares and ran an art gallery there. Since closing the store in 2017, I have been able to pursue my third career as a writer and editor.

Another inspiration, my father, Arthur Adams, was a great storyteller. After he retired from the university, he began a career as a novelist.
As I am already twice retired, I consider this to be my final career. I edit the work of others, and I write. I find it very enjoyable. I love language; and I love history.
I am currently working on a biographical historical novel about my great grandfather, Henry Steckelberg, a cellist from Germany.

My husband, Greg Lashutka, and I have lived in German Village for over 40 years. We have been told we “moved to German Village before it was cool!” But it was cool then and has only become more so over the years. We raised our children in our house at the corner of Mohawk and Frankfort, then downsized to Lazelle in 2014. We looked at other places to live, but couldn’t bring ourselves to leave the Village, and moved four houses away. We literally rolled the piano from one house to the other! We love the walkability of the Village, the neighborliness of the residents here, and the way everyone takes excellent care of their property and the public spaces, like Schiller Park.
I was born and raised in East Lansing, Michigan and in Munich, Germany.

“City Jail” can be considered a “courtroom drama” based on my years of practice as an employment lawyer representing employers in civil litigation. It is a composite of a number of cases that followed a similar pattern: women bringing harassment cases against innocent men for reasons having nothing to do with those men. It is my hope that the play will provoke thought and feeling that might lead to a more balanced approach to these cases.
