MUSEE RODIN (Paris)
We arrived in Paris early on a Sunday morning, and headed off to the Musee Rodin.
It was a gorgeous day to visit the museum. The grounds (seven acres) and the rococo mansion, the Hôtel Biron built in 1732, each are fabulous settings for viewing the sculptures.
The Thinker.

Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower is located in a park, Champ du Mars, which was around the corner from our apartment. We strolled past it on our way to a dinner cruise on the Seine river.
Dinner Cruise on the Seine
Our German Village neighbors, Lynn Elliot and John Brownley, happened to be in Paris at the same time and were also on the cruise.
AU PIED DE COCHON

Another one of my friends that just happened to be in Paris, Mariella from Connecticut, met us at Au Pied de Cochon (with pigs feet). The restaurant was packed for lunch on a Monday.
I had the French onion soup. Our server told us it was the best in the world! It was tasty and very cheesy. The restaurant is a delightful place to eat and drink.

FRENCH WINE TASTING CLASS
Later we went to a French wine tasting class. We sampled wines from Champagne, Burgundy, Sancerre, Provence, Rhone and Bordeaux. The instructor was excellent. Deeply knowledgable about wine, terroir, everything!
LES PARISIENS

We met Lynn and John for dinner at 9 at Les Parisiens. The Chef, Thibault Sombardier, is known for his excellent restaurants. One of them has a Michelin star.
It was a wonderful evening of French inspired creative cuisine and conversation.

LE GRAND VEFOUR

I met Mariella at Le Grand Vefour for lunch. It is one of the oldest restaurants in Paris, serving haute cuisine for over 200 years. It is located in Le Jardin du Palais Royale, run by storied Chef Guy Martin, and has two Michelin stars.
A beautiful setting, with excellent service and deliciousness.
For Emily in Paris fans it is the restaurant she could not get into in season one, episode four. She made the reservation for the wrong date. They ended up at Gabriel's restaurant (of course).

DALI PARIS
The theme of lapsing time troubled Spanish master Salvador Dalí incessantly. He once stated “The mechanical object was to become my worst enemy, and as for watches, they would have to be soft, or not be at all”. The horse, one of Dalí’s favorite images, is saddled with Dalinian time. The famous soft-watch is used here in place of a normal saddle. The horse is portrayed as the representation of life weighed down and harnessed tightly by time. The sculpture signifies the omnipresence of time and the weight it has in all our actions. The raging horse appears to protest against this unwelcome constraint, his movements a futile attempt to free himself. Time races on and reminds us of man’s fleeting voyage through life and our own mortality. This surrealistic beast cannot be ridden by man, for it is time who is the ultimate rider. Dalí believed that time and space could not be dissociated, and this sculpture illustrates time in its disordered dimension, fluid, receding and transitory.
ROBIN RILE FINE ART
ROBIN RILE FINE ART
Next we were off to the Dali Musee in Montmarte. A fascinating collection of Dali's various artworks in different mediums.

MONTMARTRE
After Dali we walked around the corner and we were in Place du Tertre, the hub of Montmartre, where artists sell and create art. We relaxed at La Mere Catherine for a bite and people watching.

CAFE DE FLORE
In order to satisfy my urge to see where Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Piccasso and other creatives hung out in Paris in the 20s, we stopped by Cafe de Flore for dinner. I enjoyed the duck confit. Roth decided to become more Parisian, bought a pack of cigarettes and smoked the night away.
MUSEE du VIN PARIS
The wine museum in Paris is located in a cavernous structure in the 16th arrondisment. It provides information on the historic development of wine in different regions of France and ancient equipment and bottles, plus wax figures featuring relevant people from the past.
PARIS + par ART BASEL
The trip to Paris was based around attending Paris+ par Art Basel. It is the second year Art Basel has had an event in Paris.
I recently opened up a contemporary art gallery and wanted to see what the biggest galleries in the world were featuring for art. Many pieces sold for multiple millions of dollars.

OPERA GARNIER
I took a tour of Opera Garnier, a magnificent opera building.
The Paris Opera House was commissioned by Emperor Napoleon III (nephew of Napoleon) in 1861. The architect was Charles Garnier. The beautiful structure was built between 1862 and 1875.

FRENCH HORS' DEOUVRES COOKING CLASS
Roth and I took a French cooking class led by Cyril where we learned how to make a number of Hors d'Oeuvres. Above are our classmates and instructor.
My Parisian dinner finale was with Lynn and John (who came back to Paris from Normandy) at Le Recamier. A renowned restaurant known for souffles. It was recommended by German Village resident Michele McFadden.
Lynn had two souffles, one from the salty menu for dinner and the other from the sweet menu for dessert! Bon Appetit!

“The whole of Paris is a vast university of Art, Literature, and Music… it is worth anyone’s while to dally here for years. Paris is a seminar, a post-graduate course in everything.” ~ James Thurber
