​aving had the good fortune to live near the Big Sur Region in Northern California for nearly a decade, I developed a great love of (and maybe a slight snobbery about) beautiful coastlines. The Big Sur Region and stunning Italian Amalfi Coast are among my favorite places in the world.  Little did I know that similarly breathtaking views and stunning cliffs awaited within driving distance of our beloved village. The massive cliffs made of sand, not stone, seem to defy gravity. The turquoise water fools you into thinking you might be in the Caribbean - that is, until you venture into the surprisingly chilly, fresh-water waves. My friends and I were in awe of the amazing views, lush forest-to-pristine beach hikes, gorgeous stargazing, delicious cuisine and beautiful wineries. All of this, here in the Midwest, in Northern Michigan and it’s Upper Peninsula. If you haven’t had a chance to go to this best kept Midwestern secret yet, I’d highly recommend a visit. I, myself, can’t wait to go back!
