Meet Apache & visiting Etta, enjoying life with Lynn and Jerry Esselstein
South Third Street
Apache was adopted in 2016 from Powell Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) by our
daughter, Andrea. When Andrea unexpectedly passed away in March 2021, Apache became our dog. Andrea adored Apache and they were constant companions especially during the pandemic. She had many cute names for him including spinner, face, snoop doggie dog and patch. Andrea lived in Merion Village and Apache took many walks with the three of us in the park and between our homes.
Apache is a bittersweet reminder of Andrea and we are grateful to have him.
After Andrea passed away, our son, Alex, and his Shiloh Shepherd Jamesetta
(Etta) were here from Chicago, reuniting Etta and Apache for six weeks. Apache
and Etta have strengthened their bond and are protective of and learn from each other. Etta will soon be returning home but will see her “big” brother with future visits.

Apache is a mixed breed rescue -- tree walker hound, Platt hound (state dog of
North Carolina) and 30 other breeds. He is about five years old and copper color
with a white chest and paws. Apache’s ears are adorable and our favorite part.

Apache is most comfortable sitting with Jerry on the recliner. He jumps up and
slowly inches his body closer and closer. Apache has been sitting with Jerry on
that recliner since Andrea first adopted him. Annoyingly, he barks excessively at
squirrels, buses, trucks and motorcycles. Apache sneezes as he greets us, and it’s his way of saying “thank you.” It makes us smile - it is charming.

Dogtopia daycare or spa offer is extended to 7/31/21.
When Andrea passed away, we requested donations to PAWS in her memory.
Incredibly, over $8500 (and counting) has been donated on her behalf. We were
then pleasantly surprised when PAWS named their newest group of rescues in her memory, “Andrea, Apache, Dre and Essie.” Andrea would have felt so blessed and would have wanted to give her smile and hug to each donor with gratitude.
