Amanda and John have put their gorgeous home on Deshler Avenue up for sale. I hate to see them go, but check out this wonderful house across from Schiller Park.

Stunning Von Gerichten stained glass art adorn the door and numerous windows.
One of the 19th century owners of 117 East Deshler Avenue was Theodore Von Gerichten. He and his brother Ludwig immigrated to the United States from Offenbach, Germany in 1886 and 1887, respectively.
Initially Theodore worked in insurance in Alabama and Ludwig learned the craft of glass art in Cincinnati. After mastering the trade, Ludwig moved to Alabama and opened a studio. He soon asked his brother to join him in the business.
In 1893 they moved the glass company to Columbus, Ohio. The Von Gerichten's glass art was renowned throughout the country and also in Germany (they opened a second studio in Munich). They are responsible for approximately 1,800 windows placed in more than 800 churches across the United States.
One of the locations for the business was the building that currently houses Tony's Italian Restaurant on High Street.
