From Stephen:
We moved to German Village (GV) from a downtown condo in the first year of the pandemic because we needed a different space configuration in order to work effectively from home. Also, being in a high-rise, we had missed having a bit of outdoor space and a feeling of neighborhood for walking our dog.
Our home in GV has proved to be very comfortable, cozy – we love its idiosyncrasies, its nooks and crannies and our friendly neighbors and traditions. We have more frequent visits from our Columbus-area friends, we think, because they appreciate the lively and lovely neighborhood environment.

We love living here for the streets; the parks; the history; the charm; the shops; the restaurants; the people; the sense of community.
We tell people that our house is totally impractical and we just kind of “fell in love” with it. I guess we’re drawn to quirky and offbeat.
About a year ago, I ended a 44-year career in advertising and retired from Fechtor Advertising, an agency I founded in 2003. I sold the agency to a couple of people who worked with me. My advertising career started in 1979 in New York City, and I worked for some pretty big agencies over the years. The reason I started Fechtor was to take everything to a more personal level. I wanted to create an agency that put people above billings, partnership above salesmanship, and chemistry above everything else. There are so many agencies that think billings are the be-all and end-all. That wasn’t for me.
And now, in retirement, I’ve started something new.
I’M JUST A HUMAN. BEING.™ is a company that recognizes the intrinsic value of every human being. We create and sell products that reconnect people to their humanity. And we donate 100% of the profits to fund organizations that support and advocate for human rights, civil rights, equality, and justice. It’s a passion project for me, and one that I think the world could really use right now. You can learn more at: imjustahuman-being.com.
