German Village resident, Amanda Smoliniec, is a volunteer for the Franklin Park Conservatory’s (FPC) Women’s Board.
From Amanda:
When I moved to Columbus in 2013, I was invited to join FPC’s Women’s Board. I was highly interested in joining as a way of becoming involved in the community, getting to know Columbus, and because gardening has been a huge passion for me since my late ‘20s. A great fit!

At first I just attended the social aspects of the Board, but they began asking me to assume various and more involved roles as the years went by, until last year (2021) when I was asked to Chair the committee that organizes Field-to-Table. It was especially challenging because we were still in the midst of the deepest Covid and didn’t know what type of event we could have, or if we could even have one.

The Women’s Board Field-to-Table is the largest fundraiser for FPC. The proceeds support the underserved and inner city communities ability to gain access to FPC and reap the benefits of horticulture. This includes funding community gardens programs, teen internships, nature therapy, free access days, school bus trips and more.
The Women’s Board is a group of fun, talented women who are dedicated to financially supporting, advocating and volunteering for FPC. And we make sure we have a great time while we are doing it.

This is a picture of the FTT committee (my team ) . Larger than normal, but it took all of us to pull it off.
Well, we were able to have a normal Field-to-Table event in 2021, featuring a cocktail party and sit-down dinner in the magnificent FPC gardens for 700 people and raised over $400,000. It is one of the biggest (and nicest) events in Columbus. Chairing FPC’s Field-to-Table event with this amazing group of women has been one of the most fun and rewarding things I have ever done in my life and I am forever grateful to be part of the FPC family.
