Now that you’ve been in German Village for almost three years, what do you like most about it?
We love the history, convenient location and sense of community. And our neighbors are wonderful! What attracted you here?
When we first decided to move here to Columbus from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, a real estate agent took us through a number of communities in the area. As soon as we visited German Village, we knew it was for us. We love the friendliness of the community, the history of the area and that we can walk to great restaurants and other local businesses. |
How long have you lived in German Village?
We moved to the neighborhood, and into this house, in 2017. Are there any others in the household?
There’s Millie, our dog. Our children, Benji and Anna, are in college. Where were you born and raised?
Alex grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Julie grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. And your occupations?
Alex is a primary care pediatrician at Children’s Hospital. Julie is a special education teacher. |
Have you made any changes to the house?
We recently remodeled the kitchen.

The Kempers in their recently renovated kitchen.
Historic elements abound at the Kemper house, both inside and out. In front of the home, two limestone carriage steps and a wrought iron hitching post. The sidewalk in front of the Kemper home was constructed of vitrified brick – brick from shale that’s fired at extremely high temperatures. The star pattern suggests this brick was made in the Hocking Valley – 1890.
